Other Open Source Programmes
« on: February 28, 2010, 05:18:03 PM »
Ok So I'm Not sure if i've put this in the Right place or not (I Told you i'd probably make a mistake) But I've gotten used to GIMP (Sort of) and i wanted to look into the other open source programmes , Inkscape and blender ... but i don't actually know what they are and what you can do it them .. Sooo Getting to the point (Finally I know i blab on :D)

Can anyone show me some examples of what they've done in either of these programmes andgive me a brief idea what they're about ?

Thanks Muchly *Spread Joy and cookies*

Blender is an Open Source tool for creating 3D Models, Games, Movies, Stills, and Animations... Blender does have a somewhat steep learning curve and can be a bit difficult at first.

Some of my own examples are:

Inkscape is an Open Source Vector program. It is rather similar to programs like Xara and Adobe Illustrator. Rather simple to learn, but can be a bit tricky at first... like most things.

Some of my examples are:

Hope this helps a bit.

I'm curious about Blender and Inkscape too. Not too sure if I wanna do the 3D graphics. I still need to get a much better handle on Gimp before I attempt more programs. [still banging my head on the desk with Apophysis fractals at the moment too]

Do you need to use one of those pen and pad tools to use these programs? The Wacom thingy I mean. Or can a mouse be used easily with them?

Nice stuff Darth, I've seen you DA gallery.    I browse the gallery and wonder how long it took to make some of those pieces

.... memo to me: don't P.O. Darth, he's got a Light Saber  *points to first pic in his post* hehe  should make a one with like that with the quote "May the Open Source be with you"

I use a mouse with everything at the moment. That could change this year. (I miss my tablet)

What tablet do you have? Is it working well in Linux and Gimp?

OH now I think Darth Gimp should have fun and do up  something since you guys like that little saying I made up. Make Wilbur into a Darth Vader type character and give him a light saber. the quote of course is "may the open source be with you" and maybe throw in "come to the free side" [instead of the dark side]  [insert heavy vader-ish breathing here]
