A friend of mine is starting a cake decorating business and has requested my assistance in creating a logo for her.  The site is called Cake Discoveries or if you're on facebook, you can see her page here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Lakeland-FL/Cakes-by-April/108103665880103?ref=ts.  The blue guitar cake next to the real guitar is one she made for my birthday.

At any rate, I'd like a few suggestions for a logo.  Because it has to do with discovery, I'm envisioning something with a map, binoculars, cake utensils, etc.  However, I'm completely open to suggestions for something different.  I would like to do the logo in inkscape to be able to scale it as needed.  Since I'm a complete newb to inscape the concept should be simple, yet catchy.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'd rate you as an upper-middle-lower-mod with pro-novice-inter tendencies.....and a twist of lime!  Of course, my rating scale is completely objectively subjective, but ALWAYS consistently inconsistent.

What about a Map Compass but made to look like a cake.


With a scroll/banner thing in the center with the business name on it. Angle the banner some as well.


You could work the spokes behind the compass points to look like a knife and spatula. Kinda like the cake (compass) is sitting on top of them.
Than top it off by removing a slice or make it look like a slice was being taken out of the compass cake thing.

If that makes any sense! If not i could draft something up fast

BTW your friend has some mad cake skills. That Spongbob cake is crazy! Not to mention the other cakes in her photo gallery.
If she needs any help with her site i would be more than willing to help out.
