How can I...
« on: December 06, 2008, 05:00:23 AM »
get some resurrection for the dead portion of our beloved forum to get some life and activity going?

Would a new forum theme do it?
Should I consider an artistic nude section? (nah not that desperate yet)
Should I allow PS? (Nah.. not that desperate yet)

i've had this idea for awhile now. it would be part of the totw and /or sotw.  the idea is to pick a tutorial from the net or from here and use it in a competition. the render/subject would be the member's choice but they would use the tut and see what they can come up with.  i think this might get newer members who are unsure of how to create something from scratch will enter with these parameters.

Thta's a wonderfull idea, Istarlome. That would help me getting started, and i too think that it will make it easier to newer members.
Maybe we should do some advertising around the net to get new members.?

oh, i forgot. if the entry has a minor change in the tut, that would have to be explained. this way others can see how the same tut can lead to different outcomes with minor additions or changes. by "changes" i mean the basic tut would be the same but with some twiking.

First of all, I think Istarlome's idea would be totally spectacular.  Becuase it not only keeps you active and thinking aobut hte tutorials, but it actually lets you learn new stuff and what effects happen how.  This can be very useful from time to time.  And if you see others use the same tutorial you can know how effective the tutorial is.  So yeah roll with istarlome  ;)

I like it and we've tried it in the past with zero entries    That said. I think we could give it a go. There is one thing with the idea tho... most of the available sig tuts that I see are written for PS. Not all Gimp users know how to do the work arounds or are comfortable enough with gimp to figure it out.

Possible solution.... No PS tuts.
or.. allow a PS tut and post the work arounds with it.

Thoughts?

Also.. for new members, I temporarily shut off applications because we were getting swamped with spam bots.

I have probably around 25 favorited GIMP tutorials that i've searched for and found that are great looking but i've never had a chance to do.  If you would like to use one just message me i'd be glad to give you some links.

oh, i don't think we should limit this to sotw. it could be done for totw as well. lots of gimp tuts out there.

ps tuts should not be used until the work arounds are finished into a gimp tut. IMHO  ;)

i hope some others enter the latest sotw  :(" title="Angry" border="0" class="smiley"/>

Matt... I sent you a PM asking for the links and you gave me 1. Not sure how I can apply them if you are not willing to share as you stated above.
