click for da. i rather like how this turned out, quite unexpected, tbh. although rendering it was a pain, even this high quality you can see its extremely grainy.

i replied on the da site.  i'm by no means a pro at apophysis but a couple of things i find that work.

the graininess is due to the amount of "gamma".  you can turn that down in the gradient window.

i always use a bit of "pre-blur" on the first triangle.

last, when you render you can turn up the filter radius to 1.  that usually makes things smoother.

i, too, replied :P i have a guy who knows more bout it than i who helps me. i swear, i turned up everything real high and after hours of rendering, it still sucked.

yeah 20000 to 40000 is really high.  i've never gone past 4000.  but then i'm not that well versed.

i think you're right about the blur.  that and noise can cause what you see.
