Thanks.

By the way, where would I find different textures to use to make kaleidoscopes?

Anything can be used for a kaleidoscope texture.  I suggest you try following the tutorial step-by-step until you venture out into the 'unknown'.  The reason for my suggestion is that if you make a mistake and you're using the texture I use in the tutorial, you'll have something to compare it to and correct the problem.  If you start out working with your own texture, you might not realize that you've made a mistake until you're well into the tutorial.
I'd rate you as an upper-middle-lower-mod with pro-novice-inter tendencies.....and a twist of lime!  Of course, my rating scale is completely objectively subjective, but ALWAYS consistently inconsistent.

Well can you give me a good pattern? Just like the one you used for your avy--it is a perfect one that gives a perfect kaleidoscope effect.
If I use my logo, there won' be a very good kaleidoscope effect.

Also I did the tut and at the veeeeery end when I playback my hard-worked on animation, I end up with just the left and right being animated. The top and bottom are transparent sections.

Actually, for my current avatar, I DID use the pattern from the tutorial.  However, I added a few tricks to the mix to come up with the way it looks!  Can't share my steps, gotta keep some things for myself!

Well, it sounds like you may have applied the masks to those layers.  The only thing I can suggest at this point is to go back and find out what layer position the top and bottom patterns occupy and go to Video Menu > Frames Modify and delete them from the animation and then go back in and add them again.
I took my Christmas sig from last year and made it into an animated kaleidoscope.....good grief, Charlie Brown, I can't believe how quickly I forgot how to make one of these.    That's the price of getting old, I guess!  ::)  Merry Christmas, everyone.....spread the love!  If you have the Mehdi kaleidoscope plugin, this style would be created by taking an image, giving it 6 petals in the Mirror effect, and moving only the Vertical slider.

And here's another created with a new "Easy Cheesy" method....took me 5 minutes to do.....shoulda figured out this method before, but it was fun learning how to do it with GAP....plus, it's easier to create them with more petals....this one has 8 petals.

I really like them both.
In the first one I like how I am drawn to the white words as I try to read them before they melt together.
In the second one I like how it looks (to me) like the green lines are pushing and pulling at the image.

Glad you like them, thanks!  I corrected the second one because it had a couple of lines along the outside that didn't look right.  I definitely like this method over the GAP way!

I have problems with like 10 things i don't hav ea clue why.  I can't view the 'Crosshairs' in the menu at all, anywhere.  I have over 50 'script' folders, and i have no clue which one is the right one, i'm not sure if GAP works, on step 5 it won't let me set 100, 100: it will only let me set it to 100, 200; or 50, 100. Any help with all my problems

Well, I can probably help you out, but I'm gonna need a LOT more information.  The thing is, GAP and GIMP have been changed since the tutorial was originally written so conflicts are always possible.  IIRC, the crosshair script is one I put in the tutorial.  Did you put the script in your GIMP/scripts folder?  Any additional information is appreciated.

Well, I can't say what exactly went wrong, but I can tell you how to fix it.  Go to Video > Frames Modify...(the same location you went to Add the layer mask).  Under Function, choose Layer Mask > Delete Layer Mask.  Then under Layer Pattern set that value to 1, since it's layer 1 that you want to remove the mask from.  Leave the From Frame at 1 and the To Frame set at the number of frames.  Click Ok and then your mask will be deleted.  The layer you added to create the mask will still be available, so you can redo the mask under the Frames Modify.  If you have this problem again, delete the layer you used for the mask and readd it again as something must have gone wrong.
