Interesting things to do with FP's animated fire script
« on: July 26, 2008, 05:46:30 PM »
Just for the heck of it, I tried using GAP's Filter All Layers command with the polar coordinates filter on the result of fencepost's Animated Fire script.  This has got possibilities, I think.

To Polar:

To do this, first crop the image slightly (for some reason it leaves a tiny wedge in the PC, if you don't), then flip the image 180 degrees and then run filter all layers with polar coords.  I also did filter all layers with a slight touch of radial motion blur to smooth out the line that results.

This one uses the PC filter, but with the "To Polar" box unchecked.

Now I am wondering what sort of stuff you could do with the curve bend filter...candle flames?  Blow torch?  Rocket engine?

I like both of them.  I did the first one as an experiment when I created the script. Never posted the result.  But, that definitely has possibilities.
I'd rate you as an upper-middle-lower-mod with pro-novice-inter tendencies.....and a twist of lime!  Of course, my rating scale is completely objectively subjective, but ALWAYS consistently inconsistent.

Well, I have been trying to figure out a way to do an atomic mushroom cloud in Gimp, and I think your fire script might be the ticket, I am thinking maybe use it on one layer, do polar coordinates, but don't check the polar box, then use that with map to sphere, oriented so that I only see the face with the flames, then do some sculpting with iwarp to get it to look like I want.
