ok so you do the Select > all then you tap your up arrow 10 times... do the blur and all that.. basically he is walking you through the steps.... but you need to follow them as he wrote them...

Up arrow? the one on the keyboard ya mean? ok I'll try that. umm nope nothing happened when I did that. I think I need to be walked step by step down a different pathway for me to grasp some things better. It's the 'all that' stuff that confused me cause it wouldn't do anything when I did it. Follow them, I can't understand some of the stuff 

whats going on in that step is the creation of the white layer between the orange and black.  duplicate the black, invert the color which makes it white, move the layer up so the white shows above the black (that becomes apparent when you move the layer down in the stack). 

Ah just shove that layer up a bit so it pokes out the top of the other layer, k that i get.

oh and instead of ctrl+k, press the delete key. ctrl+k used to be delete, but that was changed in 2.4

I'm supposed to delete what I just did??
