Colors

A few sites about color theory: newbielink:http://www.worqx.com/color/ [nonactive] newbielink:http://www.liquisoft.com/colortheory.html [nonactive] newbielink:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_theory [nonactive]

What in your opinion gives an image good coloring? How many general colors or types of colors should a piece or artwork contain? What types of color combinations do you are best for certain kinds of imagery and mood? Should colors close together or on opposing sides on the color wheel be put together in your opinion? What gives something a good subtlety or an intrigueing "pop"? What is too overbearing or too dull to notice? Are primary colors or secondary colors best, and how should they be combined in a work?

Personally, I like cool and neutral colors. If mixed well with just the right amount of softness combined with a little "pop" in the right areas, it can make for a beautiful work of art. Also, when done properly, I think it can create beautiful contrast if most of an image is soft with neutral or cool colors and has the focus point have warm colors.

Coloring is yet another of my weak points, so I have no room to speak here....

Well, maybe some of those links and the replies that will eventually be in this thread may help you out in that area. :)

This is an awesome thread. Color theory is one of the best and most over looked subjects in art.

I like warm colors! If you guys couldn't tell I use alot of red and yellows.

And one of the most important. Which is why my colorblind friend who I recently introduced to the GIMP always asks me to check and correct her coloring, which I am always glad to do for her. But of course, it took a while to explain to her the importance of it. ;) :P

Aye, we can tell, and you pull it off quite well (I'm a poet, can't you tell? ;)). By the way, still loving the Gambit sig.

Ok here is an interesting thing though my fav color is green most of my clothing is green or shades of green.

I really love earth tones to like brown, tan, kakie, dirty yellow, that awesome orange color that leaves turn.
Really depends on what mood i am in.

The colors i really don't like are pastel colors especillay in gdx. I have only seen maybe two people pull off using pastel colors effectively in their work!

I like the dark pastels palet that you have in the Gimp, I like almost all colors in there.
All the colors from the earth are cool ofcourse: earth brown, fire red, ocean blue, all different shades of green.

But I more look at how the colors go together. I especially like combination like blue and white, (light)green and white, red and white, black and red, black and yellow, ...
