Inset Text Effect.
« on: August 14, 2007, 06:17:39 AM »
Alright. Here we go.

1. First off, take the image you're wanting the text on. I chose this:

2. Type your text. I used the font Arial, size 18.

3Move (M) your text and rotate (Shift+R), if needed.

4. Alright, now, use the perspective tool (Shift+P) and play around a little.

5hide your text, and do a copy visible and paste. (edit -> copy visible, edit -> paste).

6. Now, in the layers dialog, select your copyvis/paste layer, and do a bump map. (filters -> map ->bump map). Choose the text layer as the bump map. (you may have to play with the water level and ambient settings to get it to show in the preview window).

7. Almost done! ;) Select your text layer. Unhide it, and move it on top of your copyvis/paste layer.

8. Looks abit crappy, huh? Lower the opacity of your text layer. I kept it on normal, 30% opacity.

And there you go! Hope you enjoyed my tutorial. =D

SHOW ME YOUR RESULTS NAO. ;)

Nice tutorial, WS!  Thanks for taking the time to prepare it and share it with us!  Looks like the text was meant to be a part of the image.   +karma  ;D
I'd rate you as an upper-middle-lower-mod with pro-novice-inter tendencies.....and a twist of lime!  Of course, my rating scale is completely objectively subjective, but ALWAYS consistently inconsistent.

Try moving your shadows from the inside of the text to the outside.  Or least add some to the outside.  I think that's what's causing the trouble for you.  Also, roughen up the font a bit ....looks too clean for a roughed-up warrier.  You can try alpha selection on the font then Selection > Distort (that's a tough script to get predictable results) or used the grungy brush in eraser mode (or use masks) to improve the effect.
