New Image: 380 x 120
Select a Render: Captain America (Planet Render)
Scripts Used: LOMO Effect, FencePost's Copy Visible & Paste as Layer**All of these are included at the bottom of this tut in a zip file.**
Here is what we are making in this walk through:
Step One: Place the render in a position of "power" according to the Rule of Thirds.
Step Two: Select a light and a dark color from the render and apply a Bi-Linear Gradient to the Background layer with the darker color towards the outside of the tag.
Step Three: Duplicate the render and fill it with black, move this below the render and above the background. Apply a Gaussian Blur at about 20px, then lower the layer's Opacity to about 70%.
Step Four: Prepare a Map layer by creating a new layer and covering this layer with the use of the Sparks Brush. Then turn this layer off.
Step Five: Use Fencpost's Gimp Script "Copy Visible & Paste as Layer" then duplicate that new layer.
Step Six: On the duplicate run "Filter > Map > Displace" only change the source to your map layer made with the Sparks Brush and hit ok. Set the Layer to "Darken Only". Duplicate this displaced layer, and set this to "Overlay". Make a duplicate of your render layer and bring this to the top of the stack.
Step Seven: Apply the LOMO script on a merged copy. Bring this over to your tag at the top of the stack. Repeat this once more and set the second LOMO image to "Overlay".
LOMO 2 set to Overlay
Step Eight: Create the border by making a new layer and creating a thin black strip along the top of the tag. Duplicate this then hold CTRL while using the Flip tool, or go to "Layer > Transform > Flip Vertically" then merge down. I chose to make it a bit more interesting by creating a layer mask to allow some of my render to appear above the border.
Step Nine: The render I chose had some stars below the main character, I used a duplicate of my render to move the stars into place and then made some minor adjustments to the color tones.
Step Ten: Save your work as an XCF and save one as a PNG. Congrats! You have a sweet tag there.Note:
Please do not rip this. I chose to post this rather openly and in trust. The technique is a simple one and you shouldn't have need to steal.
