[Script-Fu] Ripple Texture
« on: March 12, 2010, 09:22:28 PM »
Here's a script that will create this texture (default settings) and many more:

I've always loved this effect, but could never accomplish it until today.  Here's the tutorial it's based on:  http://www.tutorialwiz.com/metallic_background/

Download the zip file (http://fencepost.gimpdome.com/Scripts/fp-script-fu-ripple-texture.zip).

Put the script in your GIMP scripts folder: C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\scripts and refresh your scripts. It can be found under Filters > Render > Ripple Texture...

Open up the desired image size.  Although the tutorial uses a checkerboard, I happen to like solid noise.

Filters > Render > Clouds > Solid Noise

Run the script

Here's a colorized version (Colors > Colorize)

Experiment with different settings and see what you can come up with!

Cheers!

I'd rate you as an upper-middle-lower-mod with pro-novice-inter tendencies.....and a twist of lime!  Of course, my rating scale is completely objectively subjective, but ALWAYS consistently inconsistent.

Here's my experiments with the ripple and plastic wrap. I set the plastic wrap to 4 for all of them.

This one looks like it's a picture of stomach lining or a brain gasp eeewwww  XD

this one looks like Willy Wonka's version of cinnamon buns

Here is my first attempt. I did this two days ago & I like it.

But now when I follow the directions & use ripple (on default settings)

I get this effect & I'm not sure how to get the result as shown in fencepost's first post

I did save the original as xcf but when I load it, it hasn't retained the history, so no joy there.
If I have posted this in error, would a mod mind moving it to a more appropriate section? Thanx

I worked it out. I was using 'Ripple' option in Distorts menu instead of 'Ripple Texture' in Render. Pays to read tutorials very carefully :)
Not a double post. At least 48 hrs has passed since I posted my 'mistake'.
