This is awesome! I am running 2.2.19 and 2.4. I will try it on 2.4 and see if I can figure out the issue there.
Greg
Saving it as with a .pat extension works. I discovered a possible flaw. I could take someone elses image and add a watermark to it. Then use that as the key and no one would know which was the original. Now if there were a way to pull it up without needing the original as a key?

Hey, Greg!

Glad to see you made the trek over!  To save as a pattern in 2.4, I believe you can go to Edit > Paste As (thanks Darth_GIMP for the tip) and do it there.

That's a good catch about the addition of a watermark by someone else.  I'll chew on possible ways to counteract that and maybe we can figure out a way to solve that.

Thanks for the comments.

I'd rate you as an upper-middle-lower-mod with pro-novice-inter tendencies.....and a twist of lime!  Of course, my rating scale is completely objectively subjective, but ALWAYS consistently inconsistent.

That is pretty cool.  But how do you prove which image actually has the water mark in it?  To be 100% positive, you need a method to find a watermark without using the original.

Hey, kkass!  Thanks for the feedback and welcome to the dome!

I understand your questions/points and agree with you 100%!  I'm still trying out different things to see if it can be done with one image only and, if those steps ever come to me, I'll definitely pass them on.  Certainly isn't a foolproof method.

Take care.

I'm trying to think of something witty to put here...

Hello all!  First post!

Anywho, I followed Fence's outline in GIMP 2.6.3 for Windows XP x86.  The only difference is that the script for saving the pattern was no longer available.  I had to manually same the pattern into the patterns folder, which can be found if you do to Edit/Preferences/+Folders/Patterns.  (Save the pattern in the folder with the filled check box.)

I used 2.0 transparency on a darker image, and the divide filter showed it clearly.  Thank you for the great lesson, Fence!

My only question is that, once we discover our stolen work, how are we supposed to explain this to the Webmaster?  (Sorry for the noob question, but this will be the first time I post my work online.)  We can't exactly say, "If you pull up Gimp and do this-this-and this...."

Thanks for the help!

But I'm at my wit's end trying to think of something...

Actually you didn't need to save it manually.. the script was simply moved in Gimp 2.6. Try this?

  • Select > Select All (or Ctrl+A)
  • Edit > Copy (or CTRL+C)
  • Edit > Paste As > New Pattern

And Welcome to the Dome!
