Very easy tutorial, No knowledge of gimp needed.

-Open up a new image. I am using size 105x100

-Set your foreground color the same as your bg color (Make them both the color you  want the brush to be)

-check the box that says use color from gradient (Make sure your gradient is fg to bg RGB)

-and brush away!

note: this tutorial is meant for default brushes that have color in them like sparks, vine, pepper, ect..

result with  displacement

open the gih file in gimp and resize it to what ever size you want. Than save it and reload the brushes.

It can be found in
Windows users
c:/program files/gimp 2.2/ share/gimp/2.0/brushes/hsparks.gih

linux users
/usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/hsparks.gih
